An older couple, travelling off the beaten path, become frightened by ghosts and report their experience to the Los Angeles police. Fortunately, the cops have an expert in ghosts along with considerable experience with the supernatural, so they investigate and find that a charlatan is using séances to extort money from gullible wealthy people. In the end, they shut him down, and to add insult to injury, he is entombed by the ghosts he raised without his knowledge.
Truly terrible, this film was so troubled that director Edward D. Wood, Jr. couldn’t even get it released in his lifetime. Visible microphones, poor scene blocking, uncomfortable pauses, and wooden performances all mar the pedestrian story. Two young people are killed near the beginning of the film by one of the ghosts only to never have the issue come up again. Ed Wood’s picture hangs on the wall of the police station because, like all the greats, he signs his films. This one, though, is the equivalent of cinematic horse manure. ½.
