Jamie Strode, Michael Myers’ niece from the fourth and fifth entries in the series, has a baby at the beginning of the film. She then escapes a hospital, gets chased by her old nemesis Michael Myers, and is eventually murdered. The baby survives and is collected by none other than Tommy Doyle (Paul Rudd, strangely enough), the little boy that Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is babysitting in the first film from the series. He lives across the street from the Myers house and helps Kara Strode (Marianne Hagan) in her battle against Myers. In the meantime, Myers murders many people before returning with the rest of the cast, which includes Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) for the final time, to his mental hospital. There, he is eventually beaten but the ending hints that he lives (and finally gets Loomis).
A near total loss, the sixth entry in the series (and the fifth with Myers) completely loses the plot. The mysterious man from the last film turns out to be involved with the Druids and is trying to use Myers to save the tribe. Or something like that. Joe Chappelle’s film is reported to have been butchered in post-production and it is easy to believe. Loose plot threads, little interest in composition or suspense, and illogical turns all conspire to make this a dismal entry in the series. It is intensely violent as well, which may be one of its few strong points. Overall, though, at this point the series appears to have completely lost its way. ✰
